The development of new drugs for the treatment of schizophrenia.

Currently available anti-psychotic drugs owe much of their efficacy in schizophrenia to their ability to block dopamine receptors in specific areas of the brain. This article reviews the mechanisms action and side effects of drugs used for schizophrenia, and describes approaches to the development of new treatments.
