The subgaleal lipoma is a heterotopic tumor of adipose tissue appearing between the galea and periosteum of the frontal bone. In this tight, closed plane, the lipoma appears as a firm, fixed, immobile mass, unlike the usual lipoma. Clinical recognition of the subgaleal location is important before biopsy so that the incision is deep enough to find the tumor.
