Since 1952 the authors have been using silk N8 and N6 for suturing the laparotomy wounds. The suture involves the peritoneum with the aponeurosis and muscle 2,5--3 cm off from both sides of the incision. In some cases they place intermediate stitches (silk) on the aponeurosis. Such suturing of the laparotomy wound is thought to be the most reliable and physiological one. The authors have made 1910 operations on the gastrointestinal tract (both planned and urgent) not followed by eventrations.
