The electrocardiogram is shown to contain additional information on myocardial repolarization rate that until recently was neglected by investigators. A combination of quantitative criteria is proposed for the assessment of T wave speed characteristics that differentiates the T wave in acute and cicatricial myocardial infarction, in anginal and hypertensive patients and in apparently normal subjects. In addition, its use increases the sensitivity of exercise tests so that physical stress employed can be limited considerably making the testing virtually safe.
