The prognosis for malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of soft tissue is correlated to histologic malignancy grade but also has been related to tumor size, depth, and location. In a consecutive series of 61 patients with MFH we found that large, deep-seated and thigh tumors were more often highly malignant histologically. This finding suggests that the prognostic significance which has been attributed to the clinical variables may be a function of their covariation with histologic malignancy grade.
