Abstract

In this paper, the spectral evolution properties of different transverse modes with the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) effect are analyzed in large-mode-area (LMA) fiber amplifiers for the first time. Both the ratios of laser power in Raman Stokes light and high order modes (HOMs) can be calculated through the comprehensive analysis of transverse mode competition and nonlinear transverse mode coupling processes. The theoretical study reveals that SRS-induced inter-modal wave mixing (IM-WM) effect would transfer power from signal light in LP mode to Raman Stokes light in LP mode and lead to the onset of the mode distortion phenomenon in high-power LMA fiber amplifiers. Different from the traditional thermal-induced mode instability (MI) phenomenon, the SRS-induced mode distortion could occur by just with the contribution of quantum noise.

本文首次在大模场(LMA)光纤放大器中分析了受激拉曼散射(SRS)效应下不同横向模式的光谱演化特性。通过对横向模式竞争和非线性横向模式耦合过程的综合分析,可以计算出拉曼斯托克斯光和高阶模式(HOMs)中的激光功率比。理论研究表明,SRS诱导的模间波混频(IM-WM)效应会将功率从LP模式的信号光转移到LP模式的拉曼斯托克斯光,并导致高功率LMA光纤放大器中出现模式畸变现象。与传统的热致模式不稳定性(MI)现象不同,SRS诱导的模式畸变仅在量子噪声的作用下就可能发生。
