Abstract

OBJECTIVE

The present review was conducted to compare the effectiveness of Quad Helix (QH) appliance with other slow maxillary expanders in children with posterior crossbite.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Randomized controlled clinical trials and retrospective studies published between January 1, 1995, and December 31, 2016, were identified from MEDLINE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the National Institutes of Health Trials, Clinical Trials Registry India, Google Scholar and major journals. After a comprehensive search, the articles were independently screened for eligibility by two reviewers. All cross-reference lists of the selected studies were screened for any additional papers.

RESULTS

The preliminary screening consisted of 608 articles, of which 33 articles were selected. A final total of only 9 articles were included as they met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Of the nine papers, four articles clearly state that QH appliance was a more effective appliance, while the remaining five studies suggest that the maxillary expansion caused by QH is comparable to other slow maxillary expansion appliances. Of the nine included articles, four articles also describe the complications of QH in comparison to other slow maxillary expansion devices.

CONCLUSION

The QH appliance is a viable alternative for the correction of posterior crossbite. The QH appliance is comparable to or even better than other slow maxillary expanders in terms of maxillary expansion while being cost-effective with very few complications.

目的

从MEDLINE、Cochrane对照试验中央注册库、美国国立卫生研究院试验、印度临床试验注册库、谷歌学术以及主要期刊中检索1995年1月1日至2016年12月31日期间发表的随机对照临床试验和回顾性研究。经过全面检索后,由两名评审员独立筛选文章以确定其是否符合入选标准。对所选研究的所有参考文献列表进行筛查以查找其他相关论文。

结果

初步筛查出608篇文章,其中33篇文章被选中。最终仅纳入9篇文章,因为它们符合纳入和排除标准。在这9篇论文中,4篇文章明确指出QH矫治器是一种更有效的矫治器,而其余5项研究表明QH引起的上颌扩弓与其他慢速上颌扩弓矫治器相当。在纳入的9篇文章中,4篇文章还比较了QH与其他慢速上颌扩弓装置的并发症。

结论

QH矫治器是矫正后牙反合的一种可行替代方法。在扩弓方面,QH矫治器与其他慢速上颌扩弓器相当甚至更好,同时具有成本效益且并发症极少。
