Abstract

The aim of present study was to assess the toxicological effects of transition metal-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) on histopathological changes, behavioral patterns, and antioxidant responses of goldfish (Carassius auratus) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio). The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by Transmission Electron Microscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-visible, and Vibration Sample Magnetometer. Fish in four experimental groups exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of pure TiO NPs (10 mg L), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), and nickel (Ni) doped TiO NPs for seven days. Statistical analysis of oxidative stress responses in gills showed significant differences in superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity, and malondialdehyde parameters between two species and in all parameters than glutathione peroxidase between experimental groups and control group. In intestine, no significant difference was observed among groups, but oxidative responses were markedly different in all parameters among fish species. The histopathological analysis showed hyperplasia, fusion, and aneurism in the gills as well as degeneration, integration of villi, necrosis and erosion of the intestine. Our findings indicated that compare to pure TiO NPs, exposure to transition metals-doped TiO NPs induced oxidative stress and histopathological changes in both fish species.

本研究旨在评估过渡金属掺杂二氧化钛纳米粒子(TiO NPs)对金鱼(Carassius auratus)和鲤鱼(Cyprinus carpio)的组织病理学变化、行为模式和抗氧化反应的毒理学影响。通过透射电子显微镜、场发射扫描电子显微镜、X 射线衍射、紫外-可见和振动样品磁强计对合成的纳米粒子进行了确认。将鱼暴露于亚致死浓度的纯 TiO NPs(10mg/L)、铬(Cr)、铁(Fe)和镍(Ni)掺杂 TiO NPs 中 7 天,共分为四个实验组。对鳃中氧化应激反应的统计分析显示,两种鱼类之间超氧化物歧化酶、总抗氧化能力和丙二醛参数存在显著差异,而实验组与对照组之间谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶的所有参数均存在显著差异。在肠中,各组之间没有观察到显著差异,但在所有参数中,鱼类之间的氧化反应明显不同。组织病理学分析显示,鳃中出现增生、融合和动脉瘤,以及肠中出现退化、绒毛融合、坏死和侵蚀。我们的研究结果表明,与纯 TiO NPs 相比,暴露于过渡金属掺杂的 TiO NPs 会引起两种鱼类的氧化应激和组织病理学变化。
