Diagnosis of asthma exacerbations (e.g. exclusion of acute heart failure) and assessment of its severity are important for treatment of asthma attacks. Both airway constriction and inflammation are therapeutic targets for asthma exacerbations. Inhaled 02-agonists, corti- costeroids, aminophylline, adrenaline, oxygen therapy, and others are used as needed in acute exacerbations by choosing treatment steps for asthma exacerbations depending on the severity of attacks.
