In clinical optometry the practitioner often encounters that "gray area" concerning corneal changes of a senescent nature versus those that are not within normal limits and warrant referral. This paper provides a base line of information on corneal architecture and the physiology of the aging processes which take place within the tissue. This is followed by descriptions of the more commonly encountered senescent corneal changes and their clinical presentation.
