Pam D'Andre, BSN, RN, is a faith community nurse coordinator to Ukraine. She is an American missionary nurse serving in Kiev, Ukraine, and specialized in cardiac surgery before moving to Kiev in 2001. Mary Martin, BSN, RN, is a faith community nurse in rural Minnesota and is also a director of faith community nursing in Minnesota. She travels to Ukraine yearly to work with Pam D'Andre.

Ukraine has been an independent country since the fall of Communism in 1991. Its history has been and continues to be marked by war. Through the story of one patient, this article describes the ministry of faith community nursing in the capital city, Kiev. Through an ongoing partnership, the Association for Christian Nurses and Volunteers-Welfare Organization (BLAGO) teaches nurses and volunteers the principles of faith community nursing, with the goal of establishing faith community nursing practice in each state/oblast.
