Immediate hypersensitivity reactions are complex; they involve many cells and many mediators. Appropriate therapy of allergic diseases depends on an understanding of these cells and mediators. This article describes cells involved, discusses current concepts of cell triggering, and reviews mediators involved in immediate hypersensitivity reactions.
