Medication-induced xerostomia often results in rampant caries and difficult restorative options. An understanding of which medications contribute to xerostomia and possible methods of palliative care and treatment can help the dental provider to greatly improve the patient's quality of life. This article provides a comprehensive review of medications and risk assessment for patients with medication-induced xerostomia. In addition, the authors suggest palliative and preventive treatments currently recommended for this condition.
