Abstract

The fixed-price system for hospital care for Medicare patients has major implications for institutional and individual health care providers. This article discusses the basic characteristics of the prospective payment system (PPS), its impact on certified registered nurse anesthetists, and the response of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists to the PPS legislation.
