A 50-year-old women was admitted on suspicion of abdominal tumor. Clinical examination and ultrasonography revealed a living fetus of 24.2 weeks' gestational age. Amniocentesis revealed trisomy 18 (Edwards' syndrome). At 34 weeks the fetus died spontaneously, and by cesarean section a stillborn boy of 770 g was delivered. The risk of pregnancy in women after the age of 45 is emphasized.
