Preventing drug dependency: Part I, Recognizing risk factors.

Nurse administrators are in a key position to develop strategies to deter drug abuse by their staff. This two-part series of articles discusses the development of a prevention program. This first article describes risk factors associated with initial and continuing drug use by nurses. The second article (January 1989) will present an educational program based on these risk factors and suggest ways to provide staff with support.
