Abstract

Maritornes is a female character created by Cervantes for . She appears in several chapters of part one and takes on a greater role in chapters XVI and XLIII. In her first appearance in chapter XVI, Cervantes describes Maritornes as having physical signs compatible with a genetic disorder. According to this description, the obj ective of this article was to pose the possibility that, in 1605, Cervantes described Maritornes as a woman with a genetic disorder.
