This commentary will help answer those questions as it guides the reader through the new update of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute/National Asthma Education and Prevention Program guidelines and then outlines differences between 2 widely used strategies for the management of asthma: the Global Initiative for Asthma and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute/National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma.
