Comorbid Occurrence of Eosinophilic Esophagitis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

In a previous study, we found a variety of inverse associations between the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the occurrence of various forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as well as microscopic colitis (MC) and its 2 subtypes of lymphocytic and collagenous colitis. Two recent studies suggested a 5-fold increase in the occurrence of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) among IBD patients. The aim of the present study was to confirm these positive associations between EoE and IBD.
