Cross screw compression fixation technique in proximal osteotomies of the first metatarsal for correction of hallux abducto valgus.

The author presents an excellent method of internal rigid compression fixation utilizing a cross screw technique for base wedge osteotomies of the first metatarsal in conjunction with hallux abducto valgus correction. Critical principles of AO technique that are satisfied with this particular procedure are discussed. Forty-eight cases are reviewed, summarizing the results and discussing the complications.
