Between 1980 and 1985 six cases of isolated fracture of the sternum were observed out of a total of 72 patients (8%) with traumatic lesions of the chest in road traffic accidents. This indicates the tendency for this type of fracture to increase. The study also demonstrated the possibility of associated cardiac or mediastinal lesions which may be overlooked or develop insiduously.
1980年至1985年间，在72例因道路交通事故导致胸部外伤的患者中，观察到6例孤立性胸骨骨折（占8%）。这表明此类骨折有增加的趋势。该研究还表明，可能存在相关的心脏或纵隔损伤，这些损伤可能被忽视或隐匿发展。
