Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between working at a campus community garden and student volunteers' wellbeing. 76 undergraduate students at a large urban university in the San Francisco Bay area. A Web-based survey was conducted. Using an email mailing list of current and former garden volunteers, the study questionnaire was sent to survey participants multiple times to promote higher response rate. Bootstrap regression revealed that both connectedness to nature and general health were significant predictors of a general well-being variable. University leaders might consider that campus natural spaces contribute to student success and may be among the few opportunities that urban college students have to engage with nature.

本研究的目的是探讨在校园社区花园工作与学生志愿者幸福感之间的关系。研究对象为旧金山湾区一所大型城市大学的76名本科生。采用了基于网络的调查方式。通过当前和以前的花园志愿者的电子邮件邮件列表,多次向调查参与者发送研究问卷,以提高回复率。自助回归分析表明,与自然的联系和总体健康状况都是总体幸福感变量的重要预测因素。大学领导可能会认为校园自然空间有助于学生取得成功,并且可能是城市大学生接触自然的少数机会之一。
