Diabetes, a heteregenous metabolic and chronic disease, is a growing health problem in most countries. It has been claimed that diabetes is associated with the increased formation of free radicals and decreased in antioxidant potential. Oxidative stress formed in diabetes may cause DNA damage in the tissues. Ursolic acid, a well-known pentacylic triterpene, is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine due to its beneficial health effects such as antioxidant, anticancer, and antiulcer properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ursolic acid in the kidneys of Wistar albino rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes.
DNA damage was evaluated in the kidney cells of rats using alkaline comet assays. Oxidative stress parameters such as CAT, SOD, GR, and GSH-Px enzyme activities and total GSH and MDA levels were also evaluated.
Ursolic acid treatment was found to significantly decrease DNA damage, GR enzyme activities, and MDA levels, and significantly increase GSH levels and CAT, SOD and GSH-Px enzyme activities in diabetic rats.
According to our results, it seems that ursolic acid may be beneficial against diabetes-induced renal damage.
糖尿病是一种异质性代谢性慢性病,在大多数国家,它正成为一个日益严重的健康问题。据称,糖尿病与自由基生成增加及抗氧化能力下降有关。糖尿病中形成的氧化应激可能会导致组织中的DNA损伤。熊果酸是一种著名的五环三萜,因其具有抗氧化、抗癌和抗溃疡等有益健康的作用,在传统中药中常用。本研究的目的是探讨熊果酸对链脲佐菌素诱导的糖尿病Wistar白化大鼠肾脏的影响。
使用碱性彗星试验评估大鼠肾细胞中的DNA损伤。还评估了氧化应激参数,如CAT、SOD、GR和GSH-Px酶活性以及总GSH和MDA水平。
发现熊果酸治疗可显著降低糖尿病大鼠的DNA损伤、GR酶活性和MDA水平,并显著提高GSH水平以及CAT、SOD和GSH-Px酶活性。
根据我们的结果,熊果酸似乎可能对糖尿病引起的肾损伤有益。
