Lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells are cells able to lyse fresh tumor cells. In vivo treatment using LAK cells and interleukin 2 is highly toxic because of increased capillary permeability. International discussion is underway on this promising or too toxic therapy. However, such treatment opens a new way for ex vivo manipulation of cells.
