[Disorders of the cerebral function in patients in a dialysis-transplantation program].

36 patients of a dialysis-transplantation program with well functioning cadaver kidneys were investigated psychometrically for organic losses in intellectual function. 50% of the patients showed organicity an average of 16 months after transplantation. These organic deficits were found significantly more often when dialysis treatment had been complicated by marked medical problems. It is concluded that early transplantation of well dialyzed, medically fit patients will contribute to preventing persistent organic brain syndromes.
