Silent myocardial ischemia is increasingly recognized as a common phenomenon in a variety of people with coronary artery disease. The natural history is poorly understood, but available data suggest that silent ischemia adversely affects prognosis in all groups studied. Based on this information, we believe that efforts should be directed at detecting and aggressively treating silent ischemic episodes.
