The greater wax moth, Linnaeus, is well known as a pest of honey bees and for the biodegradation of wax and polyethylene by their larvae. The genus has long been considered monotypic and found worldwide. A taxonomic study of the genus is presented based on morphological and molecular characters (, , ). A new species ( Roh & Song, ) is recognized on the Korean peninsula. The new species is superficially similar to but they can be separated by the structures of hindwing venation and male genitalia. Habitus photographs and illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided.
大蜡螟(Linnaeus)作为蜜蜂的害虫以及其幼虫对蜡和聚乙烯的生物降解而广为人知。该属长期以来一直被认为是单型的,且在全球范围内都有发现。基于形态学和分子特征(,,)对该属进行了分类学研究。在朝鲜半岛发现了一个新物种(Roh & Song,)。这个新物种在外观上与相似,但可以通过后翅脉序和雄性生殖器的结构将它们区分开来。提供了成虫形态照片和诊断特征的图示。
