Biliary drainage: conversion of external to internal drainage.

A percutaneously inserted biliary drainage catheter was converted from external to internal drainage with the use of an additional catheter advanced through the gastrostomy opening. This technique was successful in one patient with unresectable cancer of the head of the pancreas, in whom it was performed to overcome the various disadvantages of external biliary drainage.
