Stomach ulcers were established in sucking pigs, aged 1-3 days, on a pig-breeding farm. Thirty-two out of 40 pigs (spontaneously affected) of 5 primiparous sows died for 24 hours. Necropsy revealed ulcers on the mucous membrane of the stomach, varying in size and development of morphologic lesions. Histologic investigations were also carried out. Hemolytic Escherichia coli organisms were isolated form the same pigs, and were studied for pathogenicity and toxigenicity. An analysis was made of the etiologic factors contributive of stomach ulcers in newborn pigs.
