Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the correlation of DUS and pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and investigate the effects of respiratory exercises on the above parameters.

METHODS

For the treatment group (n=20), neurological rehabilitation and respiratory exercise program, and for the control group (n=21), only a neurological rehabilitation program was implemented for 30 sessions. Forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), end-inspiration diaphragm thickness (IDT), end-expiratory diaphragm thickness (EDT), and diaphragm thickening ratio (DTR) were measured pre- and post-treatment.

RESULTS

IDTs and EDTs as well as DTRs of affected side ( < .001, .001, and .03, respectively) and intact side ( < .001, .001, and .02, respectively) were found to improve post-treatment than before treatment in the treatment group. Similarly, FVC, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC, were better post-treatment than before treatment in the treatment group. Moreover, the affected side IDT was positively correlated with FVC and FEV1 before treatment (r = .38, = .03 and r = .35, = .02) and post-treatment (r = .46, = .02 and r = .39, = .03). The affected side DTR was positively correlated with FVC and FEV1 before treatment (r = .44, = .01 and r = .40, = .02) and post-treatment (r = .32, = .03 and r = .40, = .04).

CONCLUSION

DUS can be used for the evaluation of respiratory problems in stroke patients. Moreover, breathing exercises improve these parameters in stroke patients, and they can be followed up by DUS.

目的

探讨超声检查(DUS)与肺功能测试(PFTs)之间的相关性,并研究呼吸锻炼对上述参数的影响。

方法

治疗组(n = 20)采用神经康复和呼吸锻炼方案,对照组(n = 21)仅实施神经康复方案,均进行30个疗程。在治疗前后测量用力肺活量(FVC)、第1秒用力呼气量(FEV1)、吸气末膈肌厚度(IDT)、呼气末膈肌厚度(EDT)和膈肌增厚率(DTR)。

结果

治疗组中,患侧(分别为P <.001、P <.001和P <.03)和健侧(分别为P <.001、P <.001和P <.02)的IDT、EDT以及DTR在治疗后均较治疗前有所改善。同样,治疗组的FVC、FEV1和FEV1/FVC在治疗后比治疗前更好。此外,患侧IDT在治疗前(r = 0.38,P = 0.03和r = 0.35,P = 0.02)和治疗后(r = 0.46,P = 0.02和r = 0.39,P = 0.03)均与FVC和FEV1呈正相关。患侧DTR在治疗前(r = 0.44,P = 0.01和r = 0.40,P = 0.02)和治疗后(r = 0.32,P = 0.03和r = 0.40,P = 0.04)均与FVC和FEV1呈正相关。

结论

DUS可用于评估脑卒中患者的呼吸问题。此外,呼吸锻炼可改善脑卒中患者的这些参数,并且可以通过DUS进行随访。
