Abstract
A good visual result after cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation depends on preoperative determination of an "ideal" postoperative refraction. This will depend on the refractive error in the other eye and whether the cataract is monocular or binocular. Methods are outlined for calculating the postoperative refraction and refracting the pseudophakic patient after surgery.
