Skeletal muscle fibrosis is a complication of diabetes and insulin resistance. In this issue of Cell Metabolism, Farup et al. (2021) characterized fibro-adipogenic precursors (FAPs) in human skeletal muscle and showed that a CD34CD90 FAP subset is involved in diabetes-induced muscle fibrosis through PDGFRα signaling and activation of glycolysis.
