The effect of propranolol on the function of the heart, its hemodynamics and metabolism was studied on dogs and rats. It was established that propranolol-induced block of the beta-adrenergic receptors is conducive to a decrease in the intensity of myocardial metabolism and increase of myocardial tolerance to ischemia.
