A recent publication proposes that T cell receptor activation elicits formation of the Ca releasing messenger NAADP from NAADPH, catalysed by the NADPH oxidase DUOX. This is in contrast to the hitherto prevailing view that CD38 is critical for NAADP formation. Is it time to reassess the role of CD38?
