Ninety-six measurements of glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb A1c) were performed over a 2 1/4 year period in 40 children and young adults with Type I diabetes mellitus. Sixty-five per cent of the patients were found to be under ideal or good control and 17.5% under satisfactory control. Urgent readjustment of therapy was indicated in 17.5%. Our experience suggests the importance of quarterly Hb A1c determinations as a therapeutic guide-line and as a prognostic and quality control parameter.
