Based on results of more than 700 percutaneous renal operations, the performance of both puncture and dilatation by the same urologist is described in detail, as successive steps. Advantages of this method are outlined and two new instruments presented: a percutaneous working sheath and a lombotome guided by a guide-wire and possessing a double blade.
