[The histopathology of keratoconus posticus circumscriptus].

The histopathology of keratoconus posticus circumscriptus is described. On the basis of electron microscopic studies a corneal development anomaly may be suspected. This hypothesis is also supported by the intercellular junctions (gap junctions) between the basal epithelial cells and the differences in the diameters of the collagen fibers (10-30 nm). The disturbance in fibrillogenesis is the result of stromal cell degeneration.
