Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is an uncommon benign odontogenic tumor arising from the jaw bone. The diagnosis poses a challenge because its clinical features overlap with those of other benign and malignant neoplasms. Although surgery is usually the choice treatment, there is still some controversy concerning surgical techniques and proper indications.
We present the unusual case of an odontogenic myxoma involving the maxilla, diagnosed in a 31 years old patient presenting to our department for facial swelling through computed imaging and pathological analysis. After careful consideration, the patient was treated with conservative surgery, with a satisfying end result.
Because of its slow growth, odontogenic myxoma is often asymptomatic. The diagnosis is based on clinical, radiological and histological caracteristics. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice, but it can be challenging because of the tumor's indistinct margins.
Though there are still no clear guidelines for the management of OM in the head and neck region, the general consensus is that the surgical excision should be complete, and patients treated in a conservative manner should benefit from regular follow-ups.
牙源性黏液瘤（OM）是一种起源于颌骨的罕见良性牙源性肿瘤。由于其临床特征与其他良性和恶性肿瘤的特征重叠，诊断颇具挑战性。尽管手术通常是首选治疗方法，但在手术技术和适当适应症方面仍存在一些争议。
我们报告了一例累及上颌骨的牙源性黏液瘤的罕见病例，该病例是通过计算机成像和病理分析诊断出来的，患者为一名31岁因面部肿胀前来我科就诊的患者。经过仔细考虑，患者接受了保守手术治疗，最终结果令人满意。
由于牙源性黏液瘤生长缓慢，通常无症状。诊断基于临床、放射学和组织学特征。完整的手术切除是首选治疗方法，但由于肿瘤边界不清晰，手术可能具有挑战性。
尽管头颈部牙源性黏液瘤的管理仍没有明确的指南，但普遍的共识是手术切除应彻底，以保守方式治疗的患者应定期随访，这将使其受益。
