Helga Ellingsgaard studies the role of exercise-induced and obesity-induced IL-6 in regulating energy turnover in humans in vivo. The working hypothesis is that people with obesity are IL-6 resistant and that this leads to storage rather than mobilization of energy, resulting in expansion of fat mass and ectopic fat deposition.
