2 (1H)-quinazolinones as novel non-acidic anti-inflammatory agents.

Chemical modification of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-2 (1H)-quinazolinone, a new lead in the area of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, has led to 1-isopropyl-4-phenyl-7-methyl-2 (1H)-quinazolinone, proquazone. The overall anti-inflammatory profile of proquazone compares well with indomethacin qualitatively and quantitatively. It is particularly noteworthy that proquazone is the first potent anti-inflammatory drug of a non-acidic nature.
