Excellent results were found to be achievable from conservative functional treatment of upper arm fractures. A critical appraisal is made in this paper of the authors' own cases and of literature published over the past 25 years for comparison of the above results with surgical therapy. The conservative functional approach was found to be the optional method to cope with closed upper arm fractures, since it provides all the advantages of surgical therapy, yet, without the risk implied in surgery. Publications on improved results from surgical therapy cannot be accepted as reasons for a general expansion of indications.
研究发现，上臂骨折的保守功能治疗可取得良好效果。本文对作者自己的病例以及过去25年发表的文献进行了批判性评估，以便将上述结果与手术治疗进行比较。保守功能治疗方法被认为是应对闭合性上臂骨折的首选方法，因为它具有手术治疗的所有优点，同时又没有手术带来的风险。不能将关于手术治疗取得更好效果的出版物作为普遍扩大手术适应症的理由。
