A study was made of the acid-soluble nucleotides present in Acholeplasma (Mycoplasma) laidlawii A during growth. The nucleotide pool of this organism is meagre, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The main nucleotides are uridine mono- and diphosphates, and none of the more complex nucleotide compounds, such as uridine diphosphate (UDP) sugars or sugar peptides, required for cell wall formation, were detected. The nucleotide composition of A. laidlawii A is compared with that of the Streptococcus L-form.
