A complex formed from two membrane glycoproteins, GP IIb-IIIa, is associated with several functional activities of the platelet membrane: as a binding site for various adhesive proteins involved in adhesion and aggregation of platelets; and as a putative receptor for the Fc portion of IgE. The possibility of multiple functional domains being present within this complex is considered.
