Therapeutic strategy in obesity depends on the patient. No diet is more effective or better than another; in fact a diet is more successful because the doctor's choice is adapted to his patient. Although the choice is relatively restrictive, the therapeutic options are variable enough to include a range from behavioral therapies to surgery. The different approaches to treatment are evaluated according to the degree of overweight, but perhaps above all to the personality and motivation of the obese patient, suggested by his dietary habits and the prior evolution of his body weight. As a complement, clinical examination may detect possible endocrinopathies and laboratory results are restricted to making certain that the patient is in good health and/or to confirming the expected metabolic complications of obesity.
