Two severely burned patients became virtually deaf during the course of treatment. The systemic and local applications of aminoglycosides and the high dosage of furosemide were the probable ototoxic agents. Renal insufficiency and persistent shock were enhancing agents. None of these factors were felt to be the individual cause of the complication, but in combination were felt to cause the deafness.
