Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Trefoil Factor 1 (TFF1) is a secretory peptide with gastrointestinal protective functions. Abnormal TFF1 expression is reported in some cancers and functional promoter polymorphism in TFF1 is believed to be associated with risk of gastric cancer. We evaluated rs3761376 in a sample of Iranian patients with colorectal cancer.

METHODS

Peripheral blood samples were taken from pathology confirmed cases of colorectal cancer and healthy volunteers. Genotyping was carried out using Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) PCR. Any association with clinicopathologic data was assessed by SPSS version 19.

RESULTS

A total of 245 participants, including 122 patients with cancer and 123 non-cancer subjects were enrolled. Age, body mass index, and smoking habits were not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). Distribution of TFF1 genotypes was not found to be associated with colorectal cancer. However, distant metastasis was more prevalent in carriers of the mutant allele.

CONCLUSION

TFF1 rs3761376 was not associated with colorectal cancer but it may be involved in metastasis. Therefore, further investigation is warranted to determine this relationship.

三叶因子1(TFF1)是一种具有胃肠保护功能的分泌性肽。据报道,某些癌症中TFF1表达异常,且TFF1功能性启动子多态性被认为与胃癌风险相关。我们在一组伊朗结直肠癌患者样本中评估了rs3761376。

方法

结果

共纳入245名参与者,包括122例癌症患者和123名非癌症受试者。两组之间的年龄、体重指数和吸烟习惯无显著差异(P>0.05)。未发现TFF1基因型分布与结直肠癌相关。然而,突变等位基因携带者的远处转移更为普遍。

结论

TFF1 rs3761376与结直肠癌无关,但可能参与转移。因此,有必要进一步研究以确定这种关系。
