Surgical approaches currently used for the complication of mitral valve prolapse; i.e., for mitral regurgitation (MR), are either replacement or repair of the mitral valve. Recently, the latter has proved to be superior in view of the late results, and should be recommended thereafter. The results had benefit to relieve the prolapse, but symptoms and signs were not always abolished completely.
