Abstract
The author outlines some important stages of the development of medicine and, by that, of dentistry--the historical data evince their close connexion--especially in the region of Magdeburg. In view of the particularities and difficulties mentioned, it is easy to understand that the targeted practice of dentistry has become possible only in the twenties of our century.
