Abstract

OBJECTIVE

The effectiveness of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) has been demonstrated in some musculoskeletal repetitive strain injury disorders. This study aimed to determine the short-term effectiveness of HILT in de Quervain tenosynovitis (DQT).

METHODS

Sixty-four patients with DQT diagnosis (32 males, 32 females; 18-65 years) were randomly divided into two groups. A short opponens splint was applied to both groups and HILT to the treatment group and sham HILT to the control group once a day, on alternate days, 3 days a week, for 5 weeks. Pre- and post-treatment evaluations were made using a visual analog scale (VAS); Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire; Short Form-36 Health Survey; and hand grip strength test.

RESULTS

The demographic results (age, gender, duration of complaint, body mass index, occupational group) of both groups were similar (p>0.05). The pre-treatment measured values were similar in both groups (p>0.05). After a 5-week treatment, a significant improvement was observed in all parameters in both groups. Post-treatment, hand grip strength levels were statistically higher in the HILT group than in the sham therapy group, and VAS levels were significantly lower (p<0.001).

CONCLUSIONS

HILT is a non-invasive and reliable method that increases grip strength and decreases pain in DQT.

目的

高强度激光疗法(HILT)在一些肌肉骨骼重复性劳损疾病中的有效性已得到证实。本研究旨在确定HILT治疗桡骨茎突狭窄性腱鞘炎(DQT)的短期有效性。

方法

64例确诊为DQT的患者(男32例,女32例;年龄18 - 65岁)被随机分为两组。两组均使用短对掌夹板,治疗组接受HILT治疗,对照组接受假HILT治疗,每天1次,隔天进行,每周3天,共5周。治疗前后采用视觉模拟量表(VAS)、手臂、肩部和手部快速残疾问卷、简明健康调查36项量表以及握力测试进行评估。

结果

两组的人口统计学结果(年龄、性别、主诉持续时间、体重指数、职业组)相似(p>0.05)。两组治疗前的测量值相似(p>0.05)。经过5周治疗后,两组所有参数均有显著改善。治疗后,HILT组的握力水平在统计学上高于假治疗组,VAS水平显著更低(p<0.001)。

结论

HILT是一种非侵入性且可靠的方法,可增加DQT患者的握力并减轻疼痛。
