The aim of this study was to discuss the prognostic significance of peripheral interleukin-6 (IL-6) and CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in COVID-19.
Eighty-four COVID-19 patients were retrospectively analyzed and classified into three groups, including the moderate group (15 cases), the serious group (45 cases), and the critical group (24 cases). The levels of peripheral IL-6, CD4+, and CD8+ T cells and CD4+/CD8+ were determined for each group. It was assessed whether these indicators were correlated to the prognosis and death risks of COVID-19 patients.
The three groups of COVID-19 patients differed significantly in the levels of peripheral IL-6 and CD4+ and CD8+ cells. The IL-6 levels in the critical, moderate, and serious groups were increased successively, but the changed levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were just opposite to that of IL-6 (p<0.05). The peripheral IL-6 level increased dramatically in the death group, while the levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells decreased significantly (p<0.05). The peripheral IL-6 level was significantly correlated with the level of CD8+ T cells and CD4+/CD8+ ratio in the critical group (p<0.05). The logistic regression analysis indicated a dramatic increase in the peripheral IL-6 level in the death group (p=0.025).
The aggressiveness and survival of COVID-19 were highly correlated with the increases in IL-6 and CD4+/CD8+ T cells. The fatalities of COVID-19 individuals remained at increased incidence due to elevated peripheral IL-6 levels.
本研究旨在探讨外周血白细胞介素-6(IL-6)及CD4⁺和CD8⁺T细胞在新型冠状病毒肺炎(COVID-19)中的预后意义。
回顾性分析84例COVID-19患者,将其分为三组,即中度组(15例)、重度组(45例)和危重组(24例)。测定每组患者外周血IL-6、CD4⁺、CD8⁺T细胞水平及CD4⁺/CD8⁺比值,评估这些指标与COVID-19患者预后及死亡风险的相关性。
三组COVID-19患者外周血IL-6及CD4⁺和CD8⁺细胞水平差异有统计学意义。危重组、中度组、重度组IL-6水平依次升高,而CD4⁺和CD8⁺T细胞变化水平与IL-6相反(p<0.05)。死亡组外周血IL-6水平显著升高,而CD4⁺和CD8⁺T细胞水平显著降低(p<0.05)。危重组外周血IL-6水平与CD8⁺T细胞水平及CD4⁺/CD8⁺比值显著相关(p<0.05)。逻辑回归分析显示死亡组外周血IL-6水平显著升高(p=0.025)。
COVID-19的病情严重程度及生存情况与IL-6及CD4⁺/CD8⁺T细胞升高高度相关。COVID-19患者因外周血IL-6水平升高,死亡率持续上升。
